| | November 19, 2009 The EDC continues to be actively engaged in the economic recovery efforts for our community. In the next 30-60 days, we plan to present five new projects to the City of Ocala and Marion County for grant funding consideration to create new jobs! As I shared with the Economic Action Team recently, these projects may look somewhat different than the average company profile, but we must begin working "outside the box" to create much needed jobs for our citizens. Martha Barnwell, EDC Chair, and I had the privilidge of introducing the Economic Action Team's plan for economic recovery to our Legislative Delegation this week. Please download the latest plan with status updates to appreciate the efforts underway and the teamwork involved to move our community forward during this challenging time. One of the most exciting new economic development tools I see on the horizon is the Private Sector Subsidized Employment Program orchestrated by Workforce Connection's Rusty Skinner. You will hear more about this program as developments unfold, but I applaud Rusty for his creative approach and stand ready to help him champion this cause! This Economic Update also highlights the EDC’s participation with the City of Ocala at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Trade Show in October. It was exciting to see our community showcased in such a positive way! We were also proud to take part in a presentation thanking the Marion County School Board for their support of MTI as they mark their five-year anniversary. The Marion Regional Manufacturers Association was also on hand to present the School Board with a $7,500 check benefiting MTI’s IET Academy. If you haven't visited the EDC website lately, please take a minute to look at the refreshed design with easier navigation and updated data on housing and workforce at www.ocalaedc.org. It is an important tool for business recruitment, and hopefully a valuable resource for you as well! As always, I look forward to hearing from any of you with business needs. If expansion plans are in your future, this is a great time to grow in Ocala/Marion County! Please contact me for any assistance you may need Best Regards, Pete Tesch President/CEO | | | | Barnwell and Tesch address Marion County's Legislative Delegation. Davis also presented School Board members with a check for $7,500 from the proceeds of a golf tournament the Marion Regional Manufacturers Association (MRMA) hosted last spring.
